I’ve just read an article that immediately caught my attention. It was about the most common SEO mistakes people make on their sites and why Google sees them as mistakes. Not some advanced SEO stuff. Surprisingly, it’s very basic and most of you have already heard about that. But perhaps you have not realized yet how important it is…
Google reveals the most common SEO mistakes
If you’re looking for the shortcut, here is Matt Cutts’ video:
Can you believe that there are still companies out there which do not have a website?! Hard to believe…
Are you thinking about the opportunity to create websites for those companies? Might be an opportunity…
but let’s focus now on the most common SEO mistakes, ok?
What are people thinking about first when it comes to SEO?
Traffic? And how do they think they get more traffic?
Good rankings? Not bad.
Link building and backlinks? Yes. Most people think about how to build links to increase their rankings
and get more Google love.
But why do they focus so much on link building and backlinks? Perhaps because almost everyone out there claims that without a proper linking strategy and without getting backlink you cannot rank a page?
At least, that’s what I’ve heard all the time. I must admit, I’ve never seen that as the most important thing ever.
Now, I’m not the “typical marketer”. To me, writing about and sharing things I know to help others has always been more important than getting backlinks and all that SEO stuff. Also, I just don’t have the time to go on forums, blogs, etc. to make comments, submit articles or write press releases hoping for some backlinks. That’s not my SEO strategy.
How to avoid the most common SEO mistakes?
- Focus on your audience.
- Think about the words they would use and how they would search for the information they need.
- Use those “buyer keywords” for your content.
- Write your own, unique content.
- Be authentic, be yourself.
- BE the resource your audience is looking for.
- Use Google’s Webmaster Tools and the other resources they provide.
- Be ready to give value but don’t expect anything in return.
Many experts will tell you not to rely on Google because of all the changes they made and will make in the future. From my experience, I can tell you this: use Google’s tools and services where ever you find it appropriate.
Take the advice they give you and benefit from it. Save your time by working with them and avoid the most common SEO mistakes. It makes your life much easier to know their rules and to respect them.
