Welcome back to Mastermind Coaching And Consulting. This year’s first article is about making the right decision at the right time and why you should never wait for the right time to come if you have an idea in mind or a real goal in business or life.
Many of those who have joined our business coaching group had some very similar questions: whether to start a business or better wait till they’ve saved some money to invest, whether they should wait till they’ve got more clarity about themselves and about what their real goal was, what do they really need to run a business, where and what to start with. Here is what I usually answer them – this time using Napoleon Hill’s words:
Perhaps you’ve already noticed these two things:
- There is no right time you should wait for,
or, in other words: time is always right to
- Get started from where you are and move forward
Why is making the right decision at the right time so important?
Let me explain that by using a short story:
Do you know Dr William H. Gates III? For sure, you do: Bill Gates from Microsoft. 30 years after he had left his Alma Mater Harvard he was invited to speak to the graduates and during this speech he revealed how he got started. It’s inspiring, watch it here:
How did you like it? Would you like to see the 2nd part as well?
Just go here to watch it
Well, Bill Gates did the right thing, he made the right decision at the right time. Let me pick up only two things here: he contacted the first company he wanted to sell software to from his dormroom thinking they perhaps wouldn’t even want to do business with a college boy… and he contacted them even he had not written that piece of software yet. Was it the right decision, was it the right time – what do you think?
Yes, absolutely. What if he had not contacted that company right from his dormroom simply by following his intuition, that feeling that told him “do it, now“? Think about that for a moment.
Why you should not wait for the right time?
Simply because there is no “right” or “wrong” time. Time is always right for a change. There might be the one or the other circumstance that makes it harder to achieve a goal (job, education, skills, money, family, friends, etc.) but these are “only” roadblocks on your way to success. You must learn to navigate and you must learn to overcome the difficulties in your business life as well as in your personal life.
Why are most of us struggling with making the right decision at the right time?
I’ve found that these are the most common reasons:
- Fear: fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of success…
- Lack of self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Lack of skills
- Lack of money
- Lack of time
- Many ideas, but no real goal
- Chasing opportunities
